St. Joachim
Father of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary

St. Joachim was the ever-chaste husband of St. Anne, the mother of our Blessed Virgin. Though advanced in years, St. Joachim and St. Anne remained fervent in their prayers to be blessed with a child. God was pleased with their devotion and chose to bless them with a miraculous conception, long past child-bearing years, as a result of their love for Him and for each other. Tradition teaches that while St. Joachim was away from home, an angel of God appeared to him in a vision. This angel promised that he and St. Anne would  bear a child who would be blessed through the ages. Upon waking from this vision, St. Joachim rushed home to share his excitement with his beloved wife. She was there to greet him, only to reveal the same good tidings as she was promised in another visitation from God's messenger. What indescribably sweet happiness must have existed in their hearts to know God was granting them such a blessing! In gratitude and devotion to their Lord, St. Joachim was named Patron of Fathers, Grandfathers, Grandparents, Married Couples, Cabinet Makers and Linen Traders. He is shown in art forms as an older man, often win the company of his wife, St. Anne, and sometimes with the Blessed Mother and Jesus. Images of St. Joachim are often identified by the presence of this associated symbols. A book or scroll represents linen makers, a shepherd's staff for the Christian word, and a basket of doves represents peace. He is almost always dressed in green, the color of hope.

Prayer To Saint Joachim

"O great and glorious Patriarch, St. Joachim, what joy is mine when I consider that thou wast chosen among all God's holy ones to assist in the fulfillment of the mysteries of God, and to enrich our earth with the great Mother of God, Mary most holy! By this singular privilege thou hast become most powerful with both the Mother and her son so as to be able obtain for us the graces that are needful to us; with great confidence I have recourse to thy mighty protection and I commend to thee all my needs and those of my family, both spiritual and temporal; and especially do I entrust to thy keeping the particular favor that I desire and look for from thy fatherly intercession. And since thou wast a perfect pattern of the interior life, obtained for me the grace of interior recollection and a spirit of detachment from the transitory goods of this life, together with a lively and enduring love for Jesus and Mary. Obtain for me in like manner a sincere devotion and obedience to the Holy Church and the sovereign pontiff who rules over her; to the end ​that I may live and die in faith, hope and perfect charity, ever invoking the holy names of Jesus and Mary, and may I thus be saved.  Amen"
 

San Joaquin

St. Joaquín fue el casto marido de San. Ana, la madre de nuestra Santísima Virgen. Aunque avanzado en años, Sts. Joaquín y Ana permanecieron fervientes en sus oraciones para ser bendecidos con un niño. Dios estaba complacido con su devoción y optó por bendecirlos con una concepción milagrosa, mucho más allá de los años de procreación, como resultado de su amor por El y el amor de los demás. La tradición enseña que mientras Joaquín estaba lejos de casa, un ángel de Dios se le apareció en una visión. Este ángel prometió que él y Santa Ana tendrían un hijo que sería bendecido a través de los siglos. Al despertar de esta visión, St. Joachim corrió a casa para compartir su excursión con su amada esposa. Ella estaba allí para saludarlo, sólo para revelar las mismas buenas nuevas que se le había prometido en otra visita del mensajero de Dios. ¡Qué felicidad habría logrado en sus corazones saber que Dios les estaba concediendo tal bendición! En gratitud y devoción a su Señor, St. Joachim entregó a María al servicio del Templo cuando tenía sólo tres años. Como resultado de su amor ejemplar, devoción y obediencia a la Voluntad del Padre, Joaquín fue nombrado patrón de padres, abuelos, abuelos, parejas casadas, ebanistas y comerciantes de lino. Se le muestra en las formas de arte como un hombre mayor, a menudo en compañía de su amada esposa, St. Anne, ya veces con la Santísima Madre y Jesús. Las imágenes de San Joaquín son a menudo identificadas por la presencia de sus símbolos asociados. Un libro o un rollo representan a los encargados de la ropa, un bastón de pastores para la palabra cristiana y una canasta de palomas representa la paz. Casi siempre está vestido de verde, el color de la esperanza.

Oracion a San Joaquin

¡Oh grande y glorioso Patriarca, San. ¡Joaquín, qué gozo es mío cuando considero que fuiste elegido a todos los santos de Dios para ayudar en el cumplimiento de los misterios de Dios, y para enriquecer nuestra tierra con la gran Madre de Dios, María santísima! Por este privilegio singular has llegado a ser más poderoso tanto con la madre como con su hijo, para poder obtener las gracias que nos son necesarias; con gran confianza recurro a tu poderosa protección y consiento a todas mis necesidades y las de mi familia, tanto espirituales como temporales; y sobre todo confío a ti el favor particular que deseo y busco de mi paternal intercesión. Y como el tuyo fue un patrón perfecto de la vida interior, obtuvo para mí la gracia del recuerdo interior y un espíritu de separación de los bienes transitorios de esta vida, junto con un vivo y duradero amor por Jesús y María. Obtenga para mí de la misma manera una sincera devoción y obediencia a la Santa Iglesia y al soberano pontífice que la domina; para que viva y muera en la fe, la esperanza y la caridad perfecta, invocando siempre los santos nombres de Jesús y María, y que yo sea salvo.
